From the Principal

The mission of Springfield High School is to provide high quality, accessible, affordable education to the students of this community. To accomplish this, we will hire and support knowledgeable, motivated, professional employees and give them the freedom to innovate; we will promote the creation of an efficient, responsible educational process, and we will engage the community by encouraging them to be partners in the educational process.
Thank you all for your support this school year.

Public vs. Private College

As parents and students cope with the ever-rising cost of higher education, many debate whether attending private institutions is worth the expense.

Tuition and room and board at private four-year colleges now add up to more than $30,000 a year on average, and rose by 81 percent, more than double the inflation rate, between 1993 and 2004.

Financial aid provided by private institutions, even to the upper middle class, has grown more than tuition — by 135 percent over the same period — and some universities provide substantial assistance to low-income students. Still, the dollar amounts are hard for most applicants to ignore.

Health Update

H1N1 Health Alert

November 14, 2009

As you may be aware, the H1N1 outbreak is occurring in the United States and other countries around the globe. No cases of H1N1 have been detected in Springfield County. This form of H1N1 has so far caused only mild illness in the USA, but is spreading from person to person at this time.

Springfield County Public Health is asking all of us to take steps to minimize the possible spread of disease.

Here are a couple of important ways parents can help:
  • Most importantly, if your child has flu-like symptoms, call the office to see if you should keep them home from school until seven days after the onset of symptoms. Symptoms may include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with H1N1 also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
  • Remind children to wash hands and cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. Good respiratory hygiene is very important in helping to prevent the spread of disease.
Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our students and community safe. For more information see Center for Disease Control.
